Lesson 1 Scale Construction £15

How scales are used to create harmony, both major and minor scales. Illustrates how and where chords come from. Listing scales, degree names and Roman numerals system.

The scale of harmonic modes as they appear on the white keys of the piano. Illustrating the parallel minor scales used for modal interchange and relative minor scales.

A comprehensive reference section of 106 other harmony and non harmony scales.

Practical assignment: Includes identifying the tonic, subdominant and dominant notes/chords in various keys. Identifying the parallel minor scales to major scales. Identifying relative minor scales. Back to Outline

Lesson 2 Interval Analysis £15

Primary intervals: major, minor and perfect, diminished and augmented. Inversion of primary intervals and compound intervals.

Practical assignment: 1) Name the given intervals 2) Write the intervals. Aural assignment. Back to Outline

Lesson 3 Chord Construction £15

Chord construction and extensions of the 6 chord types: major, minor, minor seventh, dominant seventh, leading tone seventh (half diminished) and diminished seventh. Also sus chords, power chord, sus2 and omit chords. Slash and hybrid chords and the chord symbols used to express these chords.

Practical assignment: 1) Write the chords in notation to a given set of chord symbols 2) Examine the given notes and apply the appropriate chord symbol. Instructions on how to identify and analyze chords are given in this lesson. Aural assignment. Back to Outline
